NCAS Sixty Years On: Treasures from the Castle's Collection

Over the last 60 years, NCAS has been involved in the acquisition of more than sixty works of contemporary art for the Castle Museum and Art Gallery. This carefully curated exhibition showcases almost all of the works from that collection and makes a fitting contribution to our 60th anniversary celebrations.

The launch party on the 26th September saw over 200 people flock to the exhibition, which was officially opened by James Colman, artist and representative of the Colman family that have been intimately and generously connected with NCAS throughout its 60 year history.

In the past, the families who lived at Felbrigg had a tradition of commissioning new work from artists and craftspeople. The artworks created for 'The Makers' exhibition continue this established tradition and give visitors the chance to see Felbrigg in a new light.

Felbrigg is a seventeenth century house that still retains the feeling of a family home while presenting the precious collections of some of its early residents. There are many fascinating paintings, sculptures, furniture and objects, reflecting making in all its forms and also an extensive library of books and manuscripts. The walled garden includes diverse plant species, fruit and vegetables and is rich in wildlife.

The artists appointed will have the opportunity to become inspired by Felbrigg estate, its house and grounds, during a week long residency

Exhibition dates: Sat 22nd April - Sunday 29th October 2017
