All NCAS talks are open to both members and non-members. Members receive our programme and regular newsletter by post, and enjoy reduced rates to talks, plus excursions, invitations to private views, and other events.

Please note: we do not issue tickets or take bookings for the majority of our talks. Pay at the door on the night.

Visible Women: a lunchtime tour of the Castle Museum exhibition by curator Harriet Loffler

The exhibition showcases work from the modern and contemporary collection made by women. A variety of media are used to explore the diversity of approaches by artists including Gwen John, Barbara Hepworth, Jo Spence and Penny Slinger among others. It will also launch the acquisition of a new work supported via the Valeria Napoleone XX Contemporary Art Society scheme.

Our special thanks this year to Liz and Rex Humphrey for providing an exciting new venue for this year’s AGM.
A brief formal meeting (for which papers will be available here in advance) will be followed by a talk by Simon Daykin, director of the new heritage, learning, community and art centre at Wells Maltings.

Sula Rubens: a talk by the artist including her new work looking at the plight of displaced people

Sula has often travelled to paint, immersing herself in various landscapes, buildings and their people. She has
collaborated with artists, poets and musicians nationally and internationally. Her latest work examines the plight
of displaced people, depicting them making music, tending animals, laughing and playing as people do wherever they happen to be. She has lived, worked and exhibited in many countries and her work has been awarded numerous prizes and is represented in public and private collections in UK, Europe and USA.
