All NCAS talks are open to both members and non-members. Members receive our programme and regular newsletter by post, and enjoy reduced rates to talks, plus excursions, invitations to private views, and other events.

Hand Drawn Action Packed: a talk by artist, author and curator Roger Malbert

Born 1949 in Alberta, Canada. Roger studied philosophy, then illustration, after which he was Assistant Curator at Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge, 1974-79. He then returned to art school and has an MFA in drawing from the University of British Columbia. Following the recent exhibition Hand Drawn Action Packed in St Albans, Roger will talk about curating exhibitions and writing about drawing. Roger is well known for his work as Hayward Gallery curator of touring exhibitions, many of which have come to Norwich, including the British Art Show in 2016. He is the author of Drawing People:The Human Figure in Contemporary Art, published by Thames & Hudson.

The Future of Public Sculpture: talk by Chris Mardell

Peterborough Sculpture Trust was set up in 1988 by Peterborough Development Corporation. Since then it has commissioned and acquired a collection of over 30 major pieces by contemporary British sculptors, including works by Antony Gormley, Sir Anthony Caro, Barry Flanagan, Kenneth Martin, Lee Grandjean & others. Chris Mardell, who now lives in Norwich and is a trustee of NCAS, is also a former chair of the Peterborough Sculpture Trust. He will present a review of the Trust’s thirty-year history, but based on his experience, he will also ask questions about how public art generally is commissioned, presented and valued, with particular relevance for Norwich.

It is time again for the legendary NCAS Christmas Party! The major social event on your calendar, where you can dance to the fabulous Mojo Band, great rock, pop and blues music and a disco, watch a rolling slide show of 250 photos from the NCAS archive, win prizes, eat and drink to your heart's content and meet old and new friends. What's not to like?
